How to get your outdoor kitchen ready for winter

Brr – it’s cold out there, which means its winter! Time to come inside and snuggle under some cosy blankets in front of the fire. There’s no way you’d be going outside in weather like this.

But think of your poor outdoor kitchen. Leaving it exposed could cause damage to your appliances and furniture. Protect your kitchen now so you can use it safely again in the summer. Not sure where to start? Read on to learn how to get your outdoor kitchen ready for winter.

Don’t forget the fridge

You don’t need to bring your outdoor refrigerator inside during the winter, but you do need to turn the power off before it gets too cold. Remember to clean it out, so you don’t get any nasty surprises in the summer.

Cover up

Your grill does most of the work in your outdoor kitchen, so you want to keep it in tip-top condition. Use a cover to protect it during winter. This will also help your grill to heat up quicker if you decide to use it in the colder weather.

Shut your pipes

Does your outdoor kitchen have running water? Shut off those pipes. Any water left in the plumbing could freeze, causing the pipes to burst. And there’s nothing worse than a flooded kitchen. Repairing a burst pipe is expensive and stressful – so play it safe and turn off the water.

Get polishing

Safeguard your stainless-steel cabinets and countertops with a good polish before the cold weather sets in. The polish will provide a thin layer of protection against the elements. Just don’t forget to remove any liquids you have stored in case they freeze.

Looking for something stronger than polish? Consider powder coating your outdoor kitchen. Choose from an array of colours and give your appliances an extra layer of protection against the cold.
