How to properly clean your concrete benchtop

Concrete benchtops are our specialty! They’re strong, durable, and look downright fabulous. But your concrete benchtop isn’t indestructible. It can still stain if you’re not careful. And in an age of COVID 19, keeping surfaces clean has never been more important.

We’ve pulled together the best ways to clean your concrete benchtop without totally ruining it.

Soap and warm water

It might seem like a no brainer, but a mild detergent like dishwashing liquid can go a long way when removing stains. Soap is safe to use on your sealed, non-porous concrete, and every home has it. All you need to do is:

  • Add 1-2 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid to a medium-sized container with warm water.

  • Dip a cloth into the water and gently scrub the stains off the counter.

Laundry detergent and stain remover

Laundry detergent and stain remover are probably sitting under your sink right now, and both are gentle enough to use on your concrete counter.

  • Spray laundry stain remover directly on the stains, and let the remover sit for a few minutes.

  • Sprinkle some powder detergent on the stain and wait a few more minutes.

  • Then clean both substances off with a wet cloth while softly scrubbing on the stain

Prevention is better than a cure!

Of course, there are ways to keep your stunning concrete benchtop as gorgeous as the day you got it. Use preventive measures to keep it clean, such as:

  • Using placemats and coasters under your cups and plates

  • Place rubber or felt mats under objects that will stay on the counter - like flower pots

  • Keep hot objects like pots and pans off your benchtop
