It’s not just a bathroom – it’s a sacred space for you to unwind after a long day. A place to beautify yourself before the big party. A safe area for you to truly be yourself. Not only do our bathrooms need to be a gorgeous oasis we can escape to, but they need to be highly efficient, durable and practical. We certainly ask a lot of our bathrooms.
When it comes to designing or renovating your bathroom, the materials you choose play a huge role in its appearance, functionality and resilience. And there are other factors that come into play – such as your budget, taste and the availability of the material you have your heart on. So which ones do you choose? At Adelaide Outdoor Kitchens, we’ve pulled together our favourite materials to use in your Adelaide bathroom.
Polished concrete
A modern bathroom requires modern materials. Not only is polished concrete strong, long-lasting and easily obtainable, but it also offers a sleek, industrial look with a minimalist touch. And just like a classic leather chair, polished concrete gains more character and individuality the older it gets – giving your bathroom a rare element of uniqueness from other homes.
At AOK, we specialise in creating high-quality and elegant bathroom basins and vanities in polished concrete. Everything is designed and made in our workshop in Seaford Meadows, South Australia, by our expert team of builders. You can check out our range of polished concrete basins and vanities on our Instagram and Facebook.
Porcelain tiles
There’s a reason why porcelain tiles have been a staple in bathroom design for years. They’re affordable, easy to install and hard-wearing. They’re also ideal for wet areas – their dense porcelain makeup is only 0.5% porous, meaning that it doesn’t absorb water and is virtually stain-proof. If you’re looking for a material that will forgive the occasional accident or sticky little fingers, then you can’t go wrong with the classic porcelain tile.
AOK works closely with Ceramica Tile & Design in Adelaide to design and produce unique and exquisite Adelaide bathrooms. With a wide range of colours, styles and patterns, the team at Ceramica Tile & Design have everything you need to turn your bathroom into a private refuge. Check out their collection on Instagram.
Wallpaper
No, that isn’t a typo - you can use wallpaper in your bathroom. There are specialised adhesives you can use to protect your walls from steam and moisture, and you can even seal your wallpaper to ensure its longevity. So it’s completely safe to choose a funky or colourful wallpaper for your wet areas – just ensure that the space is properly ventilated and that you opt for a taller splashback to protect the area behind the sink from oils, soaps and spills. And definitely keep wallpaper out of shower cubicles.
Wallpaper is also a fun, distinctive way to add drama and personality to your bathroom. Powder rooms are the perfect spot to experiment with bold tones and daring patterns, as the space is generally a lot smaller.
