A carpenter by trade, Justin Shepherd started AOK back in 2012. Before launching the business, he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Biology. A keen world traveller, Justin has always been inspired by architecture he’s seen on his trips. He takes a lot of his inspiration from museums, galleries, old and new buildings that he’s been through.

Born and raised in South Australia, Justin has travelled and lived in different countries all over the world but believes that there really is no place like home. He’s inspired by the quality of life that South Australia has to offer, her breath-taking natural beauty and the people who live here.

Justin started AOK at a time when outdoor kitchens were in their infancy. Committed to finding the materials that were both durable, timeless and stylish, Justin spent years researching and testing different materials.

Now, Justin is one of the most experienced outdoor kitchen builders in the country. He travels regularly interstate and overseas participating in trade shows, design conventions and training to teach and learn new techniques.

Tough enough to weather the harshest elements, polished concrete is also surprisingly versatile which means we can better tailor our builds to your unique design needs.

And it’s a favourite amongst architects and designers alike, who are taking it beyond the rustic and industrial and using it as a base for more modern, minimalistic builds too.

GFRC is highly durable and reasonably low maintenance. Our concrete is made off site and is quick and cost-effective to install*. And when it comes to shape, size, colour and texture – the options are endless.

It accommodates more intricate architectural designs and in addition to outdoor kitchens, we also design and build indoor kitchen and bathroom vanity benchtops and furnishings; and bespoke pieces of custom furniture.

We build our pieces off-site at our workshop in Adelaide, South Australia. We support fair and equitable labour practices and the ethical, responsible use of natural resources.
