Tiles are a great (and cost-effective) way to breathe new life into your kitchen or bathroom. Whether you're looking to add a pop of colour or modernise the area, tiles come in a range of materials, styles and designs that will add a unique flair to your home.
When planning a renovation, it’s crucial to choose tiles that are not only practical but will look amazing for years to come. But with so many styles and colours of tiles available, how do you choose?
Luckily for you, we found the answers with Sally Edmonds, the managing director of Ceramica Tile + Design, who knows everything there is to know about tiles and how best to incorporate them into your home. We spoke to her about some of Adelaide's hottest tile design trends to get her expert opinion.
What are some of the trends you see in terms of colour?
Faded colours are out. Bold statement colours - like emerald green and navy blues - are on-trend right now. Adelaide people want to make their home their own and aren’t afraid to play with strong colours to make a unique statement.
Emerald green is a rich, earthy colour that we’re seeing being incorporated into many kitchens and coupled with gold faucets. While navy blue looks amazing against rustic orange or crisp white.
What do you think inspires people's tile choices?
People like to tell a story with their tile choices. For example, people often have the same tile throughout the house, which flows with the overall design.
Which kinds of homes most suit ceramic tiles?
Tiles can be selected to work in all styles of home. For example, mid-century modern homes lend themselves to tiles.
How do you think Adelaide is changing in regards to its choices in tiles?
Adelaide locals are less afraid of resale value and are making bolder choices with their tiles. This could be because we're travelling less and spending more time at home - not to mention shows like 'The Block', which often inspire people to get creative.
What is your style in regards to tiles?
I like warm, natural colour tones and things that remind me of nature. Shades like soft green remind me of the outdoors because they have a real warmth to them.
How is this reflected in your home?
My home has a black and white natural colour scheme with bold pops of colour. I even have a basin from Adelaide Outdoor Kitchens, which added to the sense of colour I was looking for.
Any predictions for the future?
Grey and cool tones are moving out of fashion, and Adelaide will likely embrace more local Adelaide artisan products or handmade products. People will look for more unique, custom made products for their homes.
