Black is back, baby! 2020 is all about strong, bold colours in your kitchen. And there’s nothing more bold than black!
Although the look may be lush, not everyone is brave enough to go all the way. What if you have a small kitchen? Will it make your kitchen too dark? What if you accidentally make your kitchen look like Batman’s lair?
Well, good news! You CAN have black in your kitchen without overdoing it. You just need to know how. Read on to find out how you can add a touch of gorgeous onyx to your cooking space.
Black kitchen island
A kitchen island is a great option when you have limited room. It adds more bench space and acts as a small eating area. But have you thought of a black kitchen island? Painting your island black will blend it into its surroundings, especially if you have dark flooring. This makes other aspects of your kitchen pop, and give the illusion of more space.
Contrast your colours
Black might be in this year, but don’t drape the whole kitchen with it. Use contrasting colours to draw focus to your statement pieces. For example, pair your black cabinets with a light-coloured countertop. This reflects light and creates depth in your kitchen.
Not a fan of mixing strong colours together? Use glass tiles for your splashback. The glossy tiles complement any colour and act as a transition between your dark cabinets and light countertop.
Have more open shelving
We love those black cabinets, but too many will make your kitchen look cramped. Incorporate some black exposed shelves to open up space. They’re easier to clean, and you can have all your pretty serving platters and glasses on display. Open shelving also breaks up solid blocks of black colour.
