Hosting yet another anticipated sold-out Longest Table event, Sarah Waldron - Adelaide’s elite interior stylist - is a proud Ambassador for the Hospital Research Foundation. The Longest Table is an annual cancer fundraiser where people can host a night of fun, drinks and dancing to raise funds for cancer research.
And to support her cause, Adelaide Outdoor Kitchens has donated one of their premium terrazzo timber tables, valued at $4,000, for one lucky person to win through Sarah’s live auction.
Sarah’s story
Cancer is no stranger to Sarah. With no family history of the disease, Sarah’s father, mother and brother have all battled a serious cancer prognosis. Stephen, Sarah’s father, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma several years ago - an illness that still plagues him today. Shortly after, Sarah’s brother, Brad, had his eye removed due to a rare ocular melanoma. Then in 2018, Sarah’s mother, Lee-Anne, was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“I feel useless. It is devastating. I can be there for them, I can call them, I can make their meals, but I don’t know what they’re going through.” Sarah explains. “My dad’s dad died last year of cancer, and now my nanna is going through chemo as we speak. They’ve all been affected, and that’s the reason I thought, ‘I need to do something’.”
So how did Sarah decide to fight back? By hosting her very own Longest Table event. “This is my way of helping them,” Sarah beams. Determined to raise lifesaving funds for cancer research, Sarah is hosting a dinner for a limited number of people with raffles and silent auctions.
“I will be hosting my Longest Table ‘Support Squad’ on Saturday the 8th of October at Plant 4 Bowden at 6 pm. Ticket prices include a three-course meal, drinks, entertainment and your donation towards this incredible cause.”
To date, Sarah has already raised over $40,000. With this year's Longest Table event, she’s hoping to raise that number to $50,000. “For me, it is about creating awareness. It is about raising as much money as we possibly can so we can one day find that cure and ‘fork cancer’.”
