In 2021, Adelaide Outdoor Kitchens was invited to work on some stellar bathroom projects. Collaborating with Little Road Studio and Ceramica Tile + Design we transformed dull and outdated bathrooms into little slices of paradise for our clients to enjoy. Although we specialise in outdoor kitchens in Adelaide, we really enjoy bathroom design and coming up with unique ways to make the space functional and beautiful.
Here are five bathroom design trends we believe will be big in 2022…
Matte black finishes
Incorporating matte black finishes adds a gorgeous dramatic effect to your bathroom. The contrast of black and white can make for an interesting space with a bold yet elegant feel.
Matte black tapware, lighting and tiles not only look good but are versatile too. The black and white colour palette lends itself to many different styles from industrial to contemporary and minimalist. For a stylish and functional bathroom, matte black finishes are a clear choice.

Colourful wallpaper
Wallpaper is a really easy and affordable way to upgrade your bathroom. And unlike the wallpaper of 1983, the wallpaper of today is stunning. Wallpaper design is vast and lends itself to just about any style. Hygge and West create beautiful wallpaper which is easy to install and maintain. The company collaborates with designers, artists and makers who produce unique and timeless wallpaper that will completely transform your bathroom.
Natural elements
Natural elements like bamboo and stone have always been a popular choice for homeowners who want to bring the calm and warmth of nature into their homes. Adding greenery and natural materials like bamboo or stone is a cost-effective way to give your bathroom that natural feel.
Keep your colour palette earthy using tones inspired by nature - blues and greens from the ocean, brown and beige for the desert or greens and browns from the forest.
If you’re looking for a unique piece of custom-designed furniture for your bathroom, Adelaide Outdoor Kitchens can help. We often use reclaimed timber from old jetties and wine barrels that make for a unique and modern piece of furniture for any area in the home.
Minimalist design
Minimalist architecture became popular in the late 80s and continues to be a popular design choice for homeowners looking to keep their homes clutter and stress-free. Your bathroom is often the only area in the home where you can enjoy some alone time. It’s for this reason that you want to keep it calm and relaxing. Minimalist design is a great way to do this.
The key to a minimalist bathroom is ample storage space. Having a lot of storage space allows you to hide away products and bathroom appliances, giving your bathroom a clean and clutter-free look.

Vintage furniture
We love upcycling projects! Incorporating vintage furniture into the bathroom is something we’re seeing a lot of lately. The only thing with vintage furniture is that it’s only suitable for certain styles - mainly traditional, contemporary and in some cases industrial.
